“Impressions of Korčula
Town”
Oil on Canvas
65 cm x 145 cm
Korčula old town can be particularly beautiful
at night, with its fleet of “Fish Picnic” boats
and brightly coloured lighting.
Many of Ursula’s views of Korčula old town
can only be seen from the sea. For example in
“The Good Ship Korčula” the old town even
appears as a vessel itself.
The Krka waterfalls are considered one of the
scenic wonders of Croatia. Ursula has been able to
combine many aspects of the falls into one
charming work
Korčulans are extremely proud of their history,
in particular the “Moreska” battle dance.
Here Ursula has again captured the charm of
evening - this time at Mostar in neighbouring
Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Another work which could only be envisaged
from a boat. This is one of the two islands, one
man-made, off the northern shore of Gulf of Kotor
in Montenegro.
Some of the many and varied craft that can be
seen around the islands in summer.
“Royal Clipper” and similar vessels are a
common sight in Croatian waters in Summer.
Here we have a typical “Red sky at night,
seaman’s delight”
Croatian sunsets are very beautiful followed by
equally beautiful dusks that give Ursula much
inspiration.
This is both the islands sitting side by side off
the northern shore of Gulf of Kotor in
Montenegro. The one on the right is man-made.
Painted to celebrate the fact that a close friend
of Ursula’s no longer needs to take daily pills
against high blood pressure.
A geometrical game
Although Ursula would never put her head under
water herself, she is full of admiration for divers
and lets her imagination run free with this
Korčulese cat in an underwater fishing trip.
The countryside around the Krka Falls is a
sanctuary for many bird species, including
water birds such as this lovely swan family.
Remembrance candles are always placed in
Korčula’s Trg Pomirenja in November, but
November 2012 was a special occasion - the
acquittal of Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markač in
The Hague
Second of the shapes, colours and dimensions
trilogy . 3D was produced using colours and
shadows, without plaster and wooden skewers.
First of a trilogy experimenting in shapes, colours
and dimensions. Plaster and wooden skewers
were used to create a full 3D effect.
Ursula loves painting children so when Nicole’s
mother asked Ursula to paint her daughter, she
could not resist. The setting is the children’s play
boat in the centre of Korčula.
It shows that the players were enjoying the
occasion - not just a chess game, but a race
against the clock with moves coming faster and
faster as the game progressed.
Third of the shapes, colours and dimensions
trilogy . 3D was again produced using only
colours and shadows. This work is now displayed
in Australia
Another work using 3 dimensional materials
(plaster, copper rods and tiny mirrors) to produce
3D in an interesting subject.
Why not a Golden Egg for next Easter?
A vibrant re-creation of the atmosphere in a
market in the Riff Mountains in Northern Morocco
in 1973.
This comprehensive study of daily life in Korčula
is described in detail in
Ursula loves painting children so when she met
Jana (from Šenkovec near the Hungarian border)
in Komiža on the Island of Vis, she could not resist
painting her into this lovely marine environment.

Sadam Hussein”
